Arching Dog sponsors and now Associate Producer for new documentary and festival: Cowtown The Birth and History of Western swing

Arching Dog is proud to announce our newest venture in the history of music. Many of todays genres (and arguably all genres of music) owe a debt of gratitude to what is known as Western Swing. Prior to 1930 most of what was considered as country music at that time was roots music that was being developed all around America but especially in the southern states. In 1930 two gentlemen met up in Fort Worth, Texas to start a new era of country music that has impacted all subsequent genres of today. These two men were Bob Wills and Milton Brown. We all should know or heard of Bob Wills, especially here in Texas where as Waylon Jennings noted “Bob Wills is still the king”. But many do not know Milton Browns impact on this genre. It was big city dance music known as swing to the fiddle playing and country style. It was danceable country music that made the masses move. Western Swing impacted the Honky Tonk sounds of Hank Williams and many others as well as giving Nashville new sounds. Rock n Roll descended from Western Swing through Rock-a-Billy music. Bill Haley and the Comets were originally Bill Haleys Four Aces of Western Swing. More importantly, due to the masses of people who attended those popular dances throughout the southwest the invention of electrified instruments began. The first electrically amplified instrument was the slide guitar, which was invented in a little town of Mineral Wells Texas. But I should just let the documentary show all this contribution to all of music today.

Producer Mike Markwardt is in the final stages of the production of this important documentary to all of music. There is also an inaugural festival to Cowtown Birth and History Of Western Swing that will run Nov 11-13, 2021 in Fort Worth at the historic National Hall auditorium where Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys and many others entertained the masses.

Arching Dog Productions is a proud sponsor, and Associate Producer of this documentary and festival to the roots of Western swing.
